Making Decisions With Confidence
When your decisions lead to undesirable outcomes, how do you react? Are you overly critical of yourself? Is your brain hijacked by repetitive thoughts about what you should or could have done differently? Is your internal voice expressing frustration, anger, or regret to yourself?
Let Freedom Ring
On this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, I have mixed emotions and thoughts, ranging from sadness and hope to confusion and clarity. I recall my childhood lessons about equality and voting; how I learned at a young age that all people are equal, regardless of our differences, and that all US citizens over the age of 18 should exercise their right and privilege to vote.
This Too Shall Pass
Before 2020 comes to a close, and we say good riddance to a year filled with so much collective pain, sadness, and loss, I encourage you to take time over the next few days to reflect upon your year. Think about your time at home during quarantine, what you learned about yourself over the past nine months, and how you navigated different paths for managing personal and professional responsibilities.
Positivity, Hope and Joy
When our lives as we knew it came to a screeching halt thirty-six weeks ago, we quickly regrouped and figured out how to create a new normal. We began working alongside our kids as they attended classes, found joy in celebrating milestones through a screen, and called upon alternative ways of remaining connected with our loved ones whom we could not see in-person.
Family Dinner Table
I remember sitting at the dinner table as a little girl listening to my father talk about his workday, childhood, current events, and sports. You name the topic and he spoke about it as if he was the expert. This was my normal.
Change Is Necessary
People talk about being busy – busy tending to personal and professional tasks that extend outside their responsibilities or interests. This is especially true for many of my clients during the pandemic. If you can relate, then you may need something to change, and that something just might be you.
Successfully Living Alongside this Pandemic
"When will this end?" "I miss my life." "I can't take this anymore." When the pandemic made its way into our lives back in March, you quickly scrambled to figure out how to keep moving forward.
When We Get Knocked Down, We Always Get Back Up
The phrase new-normal is a simplistic way of acknowledging the changes we've experienced since the COVID-19 pandemic hit home. These two words differentiate what was, to what is, and what will be. It refers to the before we were knocked down and the after, when we get back up.
I Look Forward To
I look forward to the day when my skin does not afford me more of a privilege than those of other colors and shades. We are part of the same human race, each unique, like our fingerprints, yet the same because we have hearts and brains that want and deserve to live with calm, peace, and love.
Defeating the Coronavirus War
The days are so strange. There is an eeriness in the air. Few cars on the street. More people walking around – many in the middle of the road for social distancing purposes.
Work-Life Balance While Working From Home During The Coronavirus Pandemic
We are scrambling to figure out how we can continue being productive now that everything has gone virtual - everything but our kids, that is. We still have meetings, projects, emails, and calls, and yes, we now have our kids, who want and need us, at home all day, every day too.
COVID-19 meets Time, Distance, and Shielding
One of the things I love about my brother-in-law, Lee, a Ph.D. Nuclear Physicist, is his ability to enthusiastically and skillfully explain complex scientific facts, theories, and challenges in ways that I, a non-scientifically knowledgeable person, can understand.
Words of Wisdom
“Squeeze your core,” and “keep your head up” were two common phrases that this not so talented childhood gymnast heard from her coaches when trying to master skills on the balance beam.
Want to spend more time with your family and less time at work?
Do you want to spend more time with your family and less time at work? Do you want to go on weekend excursions with the kids, have date nights with your partner, and go out for dinner with your friends?
Innocent Fun
Many of my childhood friends grew up excited for Santa’s arrival. They made their lists and checked them twice, baked cookies and left them on the table before going to bed eagerly awaiting the excitement of waking up to find Santa’s gifts under their Christmas tree.
Another First Day
Today marks the last-first day of high school for my daughter as she is now a senior and the first day that she drove herself – and my son, a sophomore — to school. After the traditional (and typical) first day of school pics, my husband and I watched as they drove off.
